Abstract

961,382. oil-impermeable pipes. STANDARD OIL CO. Aug. 24,1962 [Sept. 18, 1961], No. 32678/62. Heading D1P. A pipe is rendered oil-impermeable by impregnation with a quinoline-soluble coke-free petroleum resin produced by oxidation of a distillation residue of an aromatic extract from clarified cycle oil. The resin may be at 360‹ F. The pipe may be formed from cellulosic, asbestos, glass, or synthetic organic fibres. As shown, a plurality of pipes are evacuated in a vessel 12 by means of a pump 14, heated resin is admitted to vessel 12 from a vessel 26, and a nitrogen pressure is applied from a vessel 16. After impregnation, the pipes are quenched in a water vessel 37.
