961,150. Joint making packing; pipe joints. WALKER CROSWELLER & CO. Ltd. June 27, 1960 [June 26, 1959], No. 21919/59. Headings F2B and F2G. A gasket for a threaded joint comprises a metal annulus 10 having around its outer periphery an axially-extending wall 10b, and a rubber &c. ring 11 adapted to seat on the annulus within the wall; the wall being collapsible in use under the axial jointing pressure. The invention is particularly suitable for use when a predetermined angular relationship is required between the jointed members, for example when a mixing valve 1, connected to a pipe 4 by a nipple 6, 7, has to be in an upright or other specific position. The annulus 10 may be of aluminium and the wall 10b may be capable of collapsing axially under the jointing pressure to a maximum amount equal to the pitch of the threads of the jointed members or, alternatively, the gasket may include a set of annuli, e.g. three as shown in Fig. 3, each having a wall 10b of the same dimensions but an overall axial dimension which differs from that of the other annuli by an amount equal to the thread pitch divided by the number of annuli. The required annulis is then selected by trial and error.
