Abstract

[Also in Division D2] A pulper or wet-mixer of half-stuffs of the paper and related industries comprises a mixing member and a screening device which is arranged at the stuff outlet of the pulper or mixer, and comprises two superimposed, perforated or slotted plates arranged for relative sliding movement so that the perforations or slots in the plates can be brought more or less into register to vary the flow cross-section of the screening device, the two plates being of annular shape and arranged around the mixing member. As shown, half-stuff to be pulped and diluent liquid are circulated in the vessel 1 by a mixing member 5. Two annular perforated plates 9 and 10 are arranged around the mixing member. The plate 9 is prevented by bosses 11 from rotating, but the plate 10 is angularly displaceable by means of pin 12, lever 13, arms 15 and 16, and spindle 14. The flow crosssection can thus be varied from a maximum value to zero. Pulp passing these plates leaves the vessel by the outlet 3 and overflow box 4. In modifications, the plates are slotted, or the holes or slots of the plates widen in the direction of flow.
