A photographic developer is prepared by boiling from 140-160 parts by weight of sodium sulphite (anhydrous) and from 2<SP>1</SP>/2 to 20 parts by weight of metol in sufficient water to make 1000 parts of solution. It is particularly useful for tropical development at temperatures of 85-126‹F. Development and fixing may be effected in one operation by leaving the emulsions for extended times in the developer. -
