960,774. Vehicle interior lamps. WIPAC DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Feb. 12, 1963 [May 23, 1962], No. 19880/62. Heading F4R. A lamp fitting especially for motor vehicle interiors comprises a part-spherical shell 10 having a lens portion 11 for forming the light from a lamp 17 mounted in a holder within the shell into a beam, means for supplying current to the lamp holder, a part-spherical housing 12 extending over part of the shell 10 other than the lens portion 11 and spring means for urging the shell 10 against the housing 12, so arranged that limited rocking movement of the shell within the housing is permitted. The lamp 17 is supported by brackets 15, 16 mounted on a curved leaf spring 18, the ends of which are secured to, e.g. moulded into, the shell 10, the central part of the spring 18 being housed in a channel 21 on the base 13 of the fitting and bearing against the head of a rivet 19. The bracket 15 is insulated from the spring 18. Current for the lamp is supplied to the bracket 15 and to one side of a normally closed switch consisting of a member 23 connected to the rivet 19 and a second member 22 connected to the supply source. Rocking of the lens portion 11 to an extreme position presses on the switch member 23 to move it away from the member 22, the rim of the housing 12 being cut away to accommodate the edge of the lens 11 in this position. The housing 11 is secured by tongues passing through slots 20 in the rim of the base 13. The lens 11 may have a rearwardly projecting sleeve sliding in an aperture in the shell 10 for varying the spread of the light beam.
