Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula R1N(NO)CONHNHCON(NO)R2, where R1 and R2 are hydrogen groups which may be substituted, e.g. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl and aralkyl, which may be substituted by halogen and/or C1- 4 alkyl; and their preparation by reacting a compound R1NHCONHNHCONHR2 with a nitrosylating agent, e.g. with aqueous NaNO2 at -15 DEG to + 10 DEG C. or with nitrous gases such as nitrogen peroxide, nitrogen trioxide, nitrosyl chloride or nitrosyl bromide. The starting materials may be prepared from hydrazine hydrate and an isocyanate or carbamyl chloride (R1 then being the same as R2).
