Abstract

960,390. Switches held set and freed mechanically; indicators for switches. ULTRA ELECTRONICS Ltd. Dec. 2, 1960 [Dec. 3, 1959], No. 41085/59. Heading H2B. A light-transmitting push button 21 projects from a light-transmitting panel 12 on which switch body 11 is mounted by means not shown. A metal sleeve 25 has a chamfered edge (Fig. 4) such that light from panel 12 is reflected into the button 21 and diffused from annular grooves 30 when the button is in the depressed condition. In this condition switch contacts 27 are operated by a projection 26, as shown in Fig. 4. In the unoperated condition (Fig. 1) the sleeve 25 prevents light from panel 12 entering the button 21. The switch is latched and unlatched by successive depressions of button 21 which cause a spring-loaded pin 16 to cooperate with a sliding cam plate 19. Plate 19 is urged to the right (Fig. 1) by spring 20 but when button 21 is depressed the pin 16 rides down surface 22 forcing plate 19 to the left until the pin seats in recess 23 retaining the button depressed against the action of a spring 14. When the button is then further depressed the pin 16 allows the plate 19 to restore and a bent tongue 24 rides above pin 16 which is depressed thereby as spring 14 reasserts and the mechanism reverts to the condition shown in Fig. 1.
