Abstract

1,164,260. Retractable ball-point pens. A.B. ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS Ltd. 30 Aug., 1968, No. 41497/68. Heading B6P. [Also in Division H1] In a push-button mechanism of the heart cam type one (1) of two relatively movable members 1, 5 carries a member 11 formed with a heart-shaped cam slot 10 and member 5 carries a pin 9 rockable transversely of the direction of relative movement between members 1, 5 and co-operating with slot 10 to regulate the relative positions of members 1, 5, member 11 being yieldably supported on member 1 and spring urged towards pin 9 to maintain pin 9 and slot 10 in engagement. As shown, member 1 is a switch housing containing fixed contacts 4 and moving contacts (not shown) and member 5 is the plunger of a push-button spring urged to the outer position. Pin 9 rocks in V-section slot 8, Fig. 3 (not shown), in plunger 5 and cam member 11 has lugs 12 resting in recesses 13 in housing 1 and spring urged towards pin 9 by spring 14. Slot 10 has bevels and stops to ensure pin 9 can only travel clockwise round the slot 10 as viewed in Fig. 4. A first push on the pushbutton moves plunger 5 inwards and pin 9 round slot 10 to the bottom of the slot where it is latched and a second push frees pin 9 from the bottom of the slot and the pin 9 moves back up the slot under the action of retraction spring 6, Fig. 1 (not shown). Housing 1 is in two parts held together by clips 2, 3, Fig. 1.
