Abstract

959,803. Picking motion for looms. BRITISH NORTHROP Ltd. Aug. 31, 1962 [June 3, 1961], No. 20108/61. Heading D1E. A picking stick 36 is attached to a current shoe 30 which rolls on a flat surface 28 and is guided by a block 100. The piston 80 of a free air cylinder 76 is attached by means of a gudgeon pin 82 and a connecting link 84 to an arm 86 on the shoe 30. The gudgeon pin 82 slides in grooves 88 in the side of the cylinder and these grooves ensure that the cylinder is only operative when the piston covers them later in the picking stroke. The piston resists the picking action and urges the shoe 30 on to the flat surface 28. The picking stick is returned by a link 50 connected to a torsion device 52, which consists of a fixed inner square tube 60 and a movable outer square tube 54 with the four triangular spaces between them filled with rubber blocks 62.
