Abstract

959,500. Two-part couplings. NOVANO Ltd- April 30, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 3761/62. Heading H2E. For use in tabulating or recording machines, a plug-and-sooket assembly comprises a pin P and a tubular component T (Fig. 3) which is split longitudinally, and is provided internally with at least two projections, or sets of projections, the first A serving as the primary contact point, and the second B serving principally to work with the pin P as it is inserted, in springing apart opposite sides of the tube, and reducing the amount of initial engagement between A and the pin. The pin has a groove G which receives projection(s) B, allowing projections) A to contact the pin (Fig. 4) again. The two sides of the tube T are urged together by spring means located at the end remote from the pin entry aperture. The projections A, B may be formed, in diametrically opposite pairs, by indenting the metal of the tube. The initial contact between the pin and the projection(s) A (Fig. 2, not shown) serves to wipe clean the contact points of A, but when the pin engages points B, points A are lifted and engagement groove G is then temporarily prevented. The arrangement is used as a link between circuit masks and standard plug boards.
