Abstract

959,048. Rotary kilns. AMERICAN CEMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 17, 1961 [Nov. 22, 1960], No. 41175/61. Heading F4B. A rotary kiln for treating particulate matter, e.g. for making Portland cement clinker, has projecting from its inner surface a ploughing element so shaped as to cause the matter to be ploughed up and rolled over during rotation of the kiln. As shown in Fig. 1, the kiln 10 has spaced ploughing elements 18 extending throughout its length. Each element comprises a V-shaped plough 20, Figs. 2 and 3, welded to a base plate 24 which is bolted to a chair 26 accommodated in a space in the refractory brick lining 16. Alternatively, the ploughing elements may be of solid form, Fig. 8, with concave sides 52 and bolt holes 54 in the base.
