958,812. Shielded containers for radio-active material. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Sept. 14, 1962 [Sept. 14, 1961], No. 34988/61. Heading B4Q. A container comprises a mild steel body 1 having a recess 2 receiving a radio-active source 3 and stub axles 8, 9 on which thick transport wheels 6, 7 rotate. The wheels provide complementary shielding, the surfaces 12, 13 and 10, 11 of the wheels and body being curved to reduce radiation scatter. The recess 2 is closed by a handle 5 secured by a screw-threaded collar 26 and after the handle has been removed the source 3 may be extracted by lifting a tube 21. The source 3 is detachably connected to the tube 21 (Fig. 2, not shown).
