1,272,404. Radiographic examination. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 6 Oct., 1969 [16 Oct., 1968], No. 49174/68. Heading H5R. In the radiographic examination of a curved weld 3 between a tube 1 and a tube plate 2, a radiation source 9 is disposed on the line of the longitudinal axis of the tube and a radiation sensitive film is held in cylindrical form on the outer surface of a radiation-transparent sleeve 6 which is fitted over the tube, the film seating on the surface of the tube plate. As shown, the fillet weld 3 has curved outer and inner surfaces 4 and 5, the plastics sleeve 6 being correspondingly curved at its lower end to conform. The film is placed between two lead screens and fitted in a black P.V.C. envelope 8 which is held in place on the sleeve by a rubber band. The thulium 170 radiation source is withdrawn from a container 10 when required for use.
