Abstract

958,614. Treating fabrics; looms. TOYO RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Feb. 16, 1962 [Feb.18, 1961], ], No. 6176/62. Headings D1E and D1P. The configurational stability of woven fabrics made from wholly synthetic and/or semi-synthetic fibres, e.g. polyamide, polyester, regenerated cellulose or glass fibres, and having a low warp and weft density, i.e. 5-30 warps per inch and 5-35 wefts per inch, is improved by treating them with an adhesive which is polyvinyl alcohol and then drying. The polyvinyl alcohol may be applied to the whole of the fabric or to a part only thereof, e.g. the crossing points of the warp and weft threads, by means of a roller immersed in a vat containing the polyvinyl alcohol, the roller having a smooth surface or having grooves cut in its surface either in the direction of the roller or at right angles thereto or having projections in a lattice-like pattern on its surface. The fabric may be dried by hot air, radiant heat, high frequency radiation or cylinder drying. In the drawing the warps Y which are initially wound around the warpbeam 1 are unwound in the direction of the arrow and guided towards healds 4 through back bearer 2. The two lease rods 3 are caught by the band-like rows of warps and the weft is thrown by the shuttle 6 through the shed formed by the healds 4. A sley sword 12 is operated by the revolving of crank shaft 13 and the reed 5 beats up the weft into the woven fabric. The fabric is passed over roller 7, where the polyvinyl alcohol contained in vat 7<SP>1</SP> is applied, to roller 8, dried by infra red heater 9 and is fed by the rotation of taking up roller 10 around cloth beam 11.
