[Also in Divisions G5 and H4] An electro-acoustic transducer comprises a piezo-electric disc which is driven so as to vibrate in the first symmetrical node with one nodal circle and no nodal diameters and is supported at points on the nodal circle. The disc 10 may comprise two bonded plates 10a, 10b (Fig. 4), of quartz cut with the X axes in the thickness direction and with the Y axis of one plate aligned with the Z axis of the other plate. Supports 11, 12, 13 are secured to the nodal circle 15 of the disc 10 and to frame 14 which houses an oscillator 16. The supports are resonant at the frequency of the disc when vibrating in the desired node. A lead 17 connecting one terminal of the oscillator to the disc may be resonant at the same frequency. The other terminal of the oscillator is connected to the frame 14 by a lead 19. A reflector 18, Fig. 3, may be arranged behind the disc. The ratio of thickness to diameter for optimum performance of the disc is discussed. For quartz, the ratio is <SP>1</SP>/ 16 The nodal circle has a radius 0.682 of the radius of the disc.
