Abstract

958,187. Clamping attachments for lift trucks. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. Nov. 23, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 44490/62. Heading B8H. A roll-clamping attachment for a lift truck comprises a pair of clamp arms 40, 42 provided with cylindrical bearing members slidably mounted in tubular members secured in a baseplate 34 which is rotatable under the action of double-acting hydraulic rams 30, 32 on the lifting carriage 24. As shown, the clamp arm 40 is pivotally connected by pins 125, 126 to arms 64, 66 secured to a torsion tube 44 to which brakes 46, 48, provided with cylindrical bearing members 50, 52, 62, 63, are secured. The bearing members are slidable, under the action of a double-acting hydraulic ram 100, 104 in tubes 86, 88 mounted on the base member 34. The clamp arm 42 is rigidly secured to a plate 72 provided with brackets 74, 76 having bearing members 78-81 slidable in tubes 94, 96 under the action of a double-acting hydraulic ram 102, 108. The clamp arm 40 is provided with rollers 130, 134 which engage cam blocks 136, secured to the base member 34, to hold the arm at its outward limit of pivotal movement until the arm is moved inwardly by the ram 100, 104 sufficiently to allow the rollers to run off the cam blocks and then engage cams 144, 145 whereafter, further inward movement of the arm causes inward pivotal movement of the arm about the pins 125, 126. The clamp arms are provided with pivoted pads 164, 166, and rods 170 are provided, each pivoted at one end to a pad and at its other end being slidable in tracks in the clamp arm.
