Abstract

958,176. Drying apparatus. W. P. DAPSES. Oct. 5, 1962, No. 37773/62. Heading F4G. Drying apparatus for webs of material 20 comprises a foraminous surface which as shown is a roll 16 over which the material passes in intimate contact, the interior of the roll having a dry heat source, e.g. from electricity, gas or oil. The vapour pressure set up at the surface of the roll causes the vapour to escape through the foraminous material towards the source of heat and either proceeds out of the open ends of roll or collected by cooling at suitable points. In a modification, instead of the roll 16, a relatively large cylinder having holes therein may be utilized. The material of the apparatus may be sintered metal, porous ceramic, synthetic plastic or metal, fetted or matted and fused.
