A drum body 1 of fibrous material with a plastics lining has a bottom end closed by a disc 3 of fibrous material covered by a preformed disc 6 of plastics material, which has an upstanding peripheral flange 7 heat sealed at 8 to the lining of the drum body. To the peripheral edge of the disc 3 is attached an annulus 4 forming a depending flange, the annulus being also attached to the bottom of the drum by stitching, or by adhesive. The flange 7 may also be formed by crimping the edge of an oversize plastics disc.
