In a sheet metal container having a liner sheet of plastic material, e.g. polyethylene applied to its bottom and a tubular liner of the same material fitted in its cylindrical shell, the bottom is secured to the shell by means of a double seamed joint so that the foot of the tubular liner and the sheet applied to the bottom are embedded together in the same joint. The top may also have a liner sheet similarly embedded in the joint securing the top to the cylindrical shell. In the case of a drum provided with a lined spout the spout lining may have its lower edge embedded in the joint connecting the spout to the top of the drum.
