An unbalance protective arrange ment for a polyphase system of con ductors 12 ... 14, has for each con ductor a circuit element comprising a resistor 23, 24 or 25 connected in series with the D.C. output circuit o: a full-wave rectifier 20, 21 or 22 whose A.C. input circuit is connectec to a current transformer 17, 18 or 19 the circuit elements being connectec in a closed circuit 26 in which the output E.M.F.'s of the rectifiers act in the same sense around the circuit Circuit means, e.g. a bridge rectifies 40 and the control winding 41a of a magnetic amplifier 41, are connected in parallel with the respective circuit elements and effect the operation of indicating or control means, e.g. a relay 42, in response to " spill " currents from the closed circuit due to current unbalance in the conductors. Substantially constant " standing " currents may be applied to the resistors 23 ... 25 by means of further rectifiers 27 ... 29 supplied by auxiliary transformers 30... 32 which are connected in series with an inductor 33 to an auxiliary A.C. source 34.
