Abstract

957,922. Boring; honing. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Nov. 30, 1961 [Dec. 2, 1960], No. 42964/61. Headings B3C and B3D. A method of producing a cylinder surface 2, Fig. 1, for a rotary-piston I.C. engine comprises using a rotary cutter 5, Fig. 3, having cutting-edges corresponding to the high points of the piston configuration. The turning or honing tools may be mounted in a staggered relationship on the cutter 5, Fig. 2, mounted by needle bearings 6 on an eccentric 7 rotated by a shaft 8, the cutter having internal teeth 9 engaging a fixed pinion 10. The tools come into operation sequentially and take rough and finishing cuts. The curves produced may be epi-, or hypo-trochoidal. In a honing tool, the honing strips 19, Fig. 4, are adjusted radially by a wedge 22 and a nut 23.
