Abstract

957,693. Cam mechanisms. NECCHI S.p.A. May 22, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 19632/62. Heading F2K. [Also in Division D1] A heart-shaped cam 2, rigid with a rotary shaft 16, co-operates with a follower 25 to impart movement to a work-holding frame 22 in the direction W when cam 25 engages the respective sides of cam 2, a cam 7 co-operating with a follower 26, coupled to frame 22, then being stationary. When follower 25 engages dwell surfaces at the respective apices of cam 2, cam 7 is automatically coupled to shaft 17 to impart movement to frame 22 in a direction Y transverse to direction W. Cam 7 is either notched, as shown, to hold follower stationary, or may be smooth and then provided with brake means. Cam 2 is rigid with a sleeve 1 rotatably mounted on bracket 15 and releasably coupled to shaft 16 by means described in Specification 916,491. Cam 7 is rigid with a sleeve 5 which is journalled on sleeve 1 and is provided with ratchet teeth 8. A pawl 9, pivoted at 10 on a radial flange 4 rigid with sleeve 1, has a nose 12 which passes through an aperture 11 in flange 4 and is spring biased towards teeth 8. The tail 21 of pawl 9 engages the inner surface of a ring 19 concentric with sleeve 1 and rigid with bracket 15, to maintain nose 12 disengaged from teeth 8 while follower 25 engages the sides of cam 2. Ring 19 is provided with two diametrically-opposed apertures 20 for receiving end 21 to enable nose 12 to engage teeth 8 when follower 25 is engaging the dwell surfaces on cam 1. Specification 905,313 also is referred to.
