Abstract

957,444. Heating railway points. GEO. BRAY & CO. Ltd., and BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. March 21, 1962 [April 6, 1961], No. 12459/61. Heading E1G. A heating assembly for mounting on railway points in situ comprises a sheathed wire element 7 looped round a raised portion 5 of a base plate 2 which supports a switch rail (not shown), each end of the element passing freely through a bolt 10 on which a clamp 11 is mounted. The clamp engages the foot 12 of a fixed stock rail 4. At each end the sheath of the element is brazed at 15 to a terminal box 14 having an insulating lining 17 and an oil and moisture sealing ring 16. A nut 23 on the bolt 10 is tightened to clamp the member 11 on the rail foot and brace the element 7 against the shoulder 6 on the plate 2. Fins 9 hold the element below the top surface of the plate 2 and a strip clamp (not shown) may be used to anchor the bent portion of the element to a sleeper.
