Abstract

The invention comprises sulphones of the formula: <FORM:0957257/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 are alkoxy groups of 1-6 carbon atoms and R3 is an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group; their preparation by reacting an appropriate 4-halopyrimidine with a thio compound R3S Met (wherein Met indicates an alkalimetal atom) and oxidizing the intermediate thioether obtained, and the preparation of 4-sulphanilamido-5, 6-dialkoxy pyrimidines wherein the alkoxy groups contain up to 6 carbon atoms, by reacting a sulphone of the above general formula with an alkali-metal derivative of sulphanilamide, preferably by dry heating the components at 100 DEG -150 DEG C. 4-Chloro-5, 6-dimethoxypyrimidine is made by the action of sodium methoxide on 4, 6-dichloro-5-methoxy-pyrimidine.
