Abstract
957,112. Heavy current switches; camoperated switches; switch contacts. AUSTINLITE Ltd. Nov. 23, 1962 [Nov. 28, 1961; July 30, 1962], Nos. 42509/61 and 29154/62. Heading H2B. In a switch a moving contact arm 13 has a universal bearing on a first conductor 10 allowing the arm to rock a contact 18 out of or into engagement with a second conductor 9 with which it makes circular line contact. The moving contact 18 has two part spherical surfaces 19, 20 seating in conical recesses 15, 21 on the conductor 9 and arm 13 respectively. The universal bearing consists similarly of a hemispherical surface 17 seating in a conical recess 16 in conductor 10 and held seated by the limbs of a coil spring 27 whose centre portion 30 biases the arm to its closed position. The contacts are opened by rotating a cam 6 which engages rollers 33. Several switches are mounted together with arc shields 40 on a framework 1, 2 and may be operated simultaneously, alternately or in sequence by suitable cams on a common shaft (Fig. 2, not shown).
