Abstract
957,015. Transistor switching circuits. ROTAX Ltd. Jan. 5, 1961 [Jan. 8, 1960], No. 709/60. Heading H3T. [Also in Division G3] In an electrical timing device, a transistor is cut-off until a capacitor mounted across the input terminals of the device receives sufficient charge and when the latter condition is reached, the transistor conducts to operate a self-holding relay. The invention may be used in a D.C. circuit but as described the circuit to be controlled uses an A.C. supply fed from terminal 1 via relay contact 16 to the output terminal so that a full-wave rectifier 4 is included in order to power the device. When switch 3 is operated, capacitor 9 receives a charging current from rectifier 4, the rate of charge being determined by resistor 10. A four-layer diode 13 breaks down when the potential across capacitor 9 is sufficient and in so doing, allows transistor 11 to conduct. Consequently relay 14 operates and completes at contact 16 the power lead to the controlled circuit and at contact 17 closes a self-holding circuit. Rectifier 15 is used to ensure that leakage current from the ballast network 7, 8 does not operate the relay prematurely.
