Abstract

Di- and tricyclic imines are made by contacting the vapour of a mono- or bicyclic primary diamine, the amino groups of which are separated from each other by at least 3 carbon atoms and are each bonded to a carbon atom carrying at least one hydrogen atom and in which diamine the ring is a 4 to 8 membered hydrocarbon, which may be aromatic with a catalyst comprizing aluminium oxide and/or aluminium silicate at 250 to 450 DEG C., preferably at 300-400 DEG C. An inert gas may be employed to dilute the reactants. In the examples the compounds having the following formulae are produced in addition to tetrahydroisoquinoline. <FORM:0956613/C2/1>
