A batch-weighing machine comprises a supporting frame, a weighing device including a discharge hopper 20a for the material being batched, a supply device 10, 11 to convey the material to the hopper and control elements 26, 27 adapted to be actuated by the weighing device to control the operation of the supply device, the weighing device and the control elements framing a single-unit assembly which is detachable mounted on the frame. The frame comprises vertical and sloping members 2, 3, 4 and a cross-beam 20 is fixed to the frame by wing-nuts. On the cross-beam is a knife edge 24 on which the steelyard is fulcrummed, as well as the control elements 26, 27. The supply device comprises belts 10,11, the conveyer belt 10 having a width several times greater than that of the belt 11 and having cross-strips 12, 13 spaced so that, in each space, the quantity of material conveyed is the bulk of that to be weighed, being about one unit short. The belt 11 also has cross-strips, 14, 15, which are spaced to include, between eyeing two strips, one unit-quantity. The poise 25 is adjusted to weigh a certain quantity, e.g. 25 kilograms, and the end 20 of the steelyard then operates the controls 26, 27 which cause motors 16, 17 to drive the conveyer belts. The material is tipped into a shoot 5 and both the belts convey it to the hopper 20a. At a weight of about 24 Kg. the steelyard tilts sufficiently to release the control 26 and stop the motor 16, the same control causing a flap 18 to move to a position 18a. Thus the belt 10 ceases to deliver material to the hopper 20a, the new position of the flap 18 preventing any spillage into the hopper. Unit weights of material are still delivered by the belt 11 until the steelyard releases the control 27, when the belt stops and the corresponding flap comes into the position of closure. The operation then opens a door 30 at the bottom of the hopper, or this is accomplished from the control 27, and the weighed quantity is transferred through a shoot 28 into a bag. The shoot 5 may have a position to divide it into compartments corresponding in their capacities to those of the belts, and different materials may be put in the compartments of a mixture is to be bagged. A deflection may be interposed to direct material into certain parts of the hopper and to absorb shock. The slope of the elevators may be adjusted to regulate the quantities of material conveyed between the cross-strips.
