A method of stamping a low-compressibility material such as a cardboard-plastic laminate 1, 2 is characterized in that a stamp including a cutting-tool 3 and a holding-on tool in the form of an annular collar 4 firmly secured to the cutting tool is pressed perpendicularly against the material, so that the depth of penetration of the tool 3 is determined by the vertical distance between the bottom surface 5 of the holding-on tool 4 and the cutting-edge of the tool 3, and also by the compressibility of the material. An annular die-stamp 6 fitted concentric to the stamp provides a marking indicating the position of the stamping. The method is particularly applicable to the provision of a weakened area in a liquid container made from a laminate of cardboard 1 and liquid-tight plastic film 2, the tool 3 being arranged to cut only through the cardboard layer 1 so that the plastic film 2 may subsequently be easily penetrated by a straw.
