Abstract

1,044,313. Cutting apparatus. T. B. CLERK (Design & Manufactures Inc.). Oct. 18, 1963, No. 41276/63. Heading B4B Die-cutting apparatus for cutting, scoring or blanking corrugated or uncorrugated cardboard includes a split die head 14, Fig. 1, carried by and, adjustable longitudinally, of a rotary shaft 10, a die-supporting saddle 18 carried by the head and adjustable circumferentially of the axis of the shaft, a die comprising a serrated blade 24 with pyramidal teeth detachably secured to the saddle and a backing-up roll which is carried by a second shaft 12 and adjustable longitudinally thereof comprising a split anvil head 44 and a cylindrical resilient covering 42 completely encircling the anvil. The distance between the teeth and the outer surface of the covering is only slightly less than the thickness of the material to be cut by the blade, to limit penetration of the covering by the teeth. The blade 24 may be secured on the saddle by blade holding pins 32, Fig. 5 (not shown), carried by the saddle. and channelled to receive the blade 24, which is held by retainer pins 34, an epoxy resin or plastic material 36 then being applied to the surrounding body. The saddle may also be provided with a milled slot 38, Fig. G (not shown), in which the blade is supported by filling the slot with epoxy resin or plastic material 40.
