Abstract

955,939. Hydraulic motors. ERICKSON TOOL CO. Nov. 2, 1962, No. 41591/62. Heading F1P. A hydraulic cylinder 6 is closed at each end by a head 8 and has a reciprocable piston 3 retarded as it approaches the head by two flow restrictors, the first comprising a cylindrical bore 11 of the piston 3 which coacts with a tapered cushioning nipple 19 of the head 8, and the second comprising an adjustable restriction 20 disposed between the cylinder port 16 and passages 18 in the nipple 19. In the position shown pressurized fluid enters through the upper cylinder port 16 and passes to three passages 24 each having a check valve 25 and into a chamber 14 at the bottom of the cylindrical bore 11, whereby the piston moves downwardly being further assisted by fluid passing through upper openings 15 and 18. Fluid within the space below the piston is forced out through lower openings 15 and 18 leading to the lower port 16, and at the end of the stroke the lower tapered nipple 19 enters the bore 11 to retard the piston movement The return stroke is identical, pressurized fluid being supplied through the lower cylinder port 16. The piston 3 has adjustable U-cup packings 4 and is provided with a piston rod 1 having a gear rack 2 adapted to mesh with a gear segment of an indexing device (not shown).
