Abstract

In a method for continuously producing aluminium an alkylaluminium compound of the form (RR1CHCH2)2AlX is heated to a temperature to decompose it to give aluminium, an olefine and hydrogen gas (e.g. 180-300 DEG C., preferably 200-290 DEG C.) and fresh starting material is added at such a rate that there is always a substantial amount of it present in the reaction zone, the aluminium product being separated from the system continuously. In the formula R and R1 are alkyl radicals and may be the same or different and X is the RR1CHCH2 radical or a hydrogen atom. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of seed aluminium powder. The product may be recovered by scraping the powder off the walls or by filtration followed by recycling of the unreacted reagents. Specification 788,619 is referred to.
