Abstract
Alkylhydrosilanes are prepared by reacting hydropolysiloxane [HSiO 3/2 ]n with an alkyl aluminium halide of the formula RpAlqXr where R is alkyl, e.g. methyl or ethyl, X is halogen, p is 1-5, q is 1 or 2, and when q is 1, p is 1 or 2 and r is 3-p, and when q is 2, p is 2-5 and r is 6-p. The reaction may be performed in an inert atmosphere and an inert solvent may be added. The temperature should preferably be not higher than 250 DEG C. Anhydrous aluminium chloride may be added to the alkyl aluminium halide. Disproportionation occurs in the reaction yielding a mixture of alkylhydrosilanes, alkylsilanes and sometimes alkylchlorosilanes. The solid residue may be hydrolysed to silanols. In the example, methyl aluminium sesquichloride is reacted with hydropolysiloxane, forming tetramethylsilane and a mixture of dimethyldihydro-and trimethylhydro-silanes.
