Abstract
955,610. Alignment gauges. LAYCOCK ENGINEERING Ltd. April 26, 1962 [June 3, 1961], No.20098/61. Headings G1M and G1X. "Toe-in" or "toe-out" of motor-car wheels is measured by attaching to each wheel an optical projector 11, co-operating with a distant mirror 15 (one for each wheel) to give an image of a pointer on a scale 16 associated with each projector, the scale 16 (Fig.2) having angular markings 17 and intersecting parallel markings 18 corresponding to different wheel diameters. Thus, with one wheel "zeroed", the position of the pointer image 13 of the other wheel along an angular graduation line 17 will, for a given angular misalignment of the wheels, give actual values of linear departure from parallelism between points at the front (or back) of the wheels for any diameter.
