Abstract
955,607. Fuelling reactors. SIMON-CARVES Ltd., and GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 21, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12588/61. Addition to 911, 863. Heading G6C. In a charging arrangement according to the main invention in which fuel elements 3 may be withdrawn from a selected channel 2 of a reactor 1 and transferred by the hoist 12 of a charge machine 10 into a selected storage tube 14 of a magazine 11, the reactor coolant flow through the channel 2 being maintained by a path comprising a charge tube 13 in aligment with the magazine axis and a tube 15 co-operating with the tube 14, a bypass path for the coolant is provided to ensure that a minimum gas flow is maintained through the channel 2 should, by accident, the magazine 11 be rotated so that a tube 14 fitted with fuel elements is aligned with the tube 15 when the tube 13 is aligned with a channel 2 also filled with fuel elements. The by-pass may comprise an aperture 35 in the tube 13, an interconnection 36 between the tubes 13, 15 or tubes 37 surrounding the tubes 14 in spaced relationship.
