Abstract

955,532. Centrifugal strainer separators. MONSANTO CHEMICALS (AUSTRALIA) Ltd. July 9, 1962 [July 11, 1961], No.26225/62. Heading B1D. When "imbalance of rotation" vibrations are set up in a basket (not shown) secured to a rotating shaft 5, Fig. 4, a reed-and-weight device 18 secured in a housing 16 operates an arm 21 to actuate a switch 22, the centrifuge drive motor (not shown) thereby being switched off. The housing 16 is fixed to a stub shaft 14 separated by bearings from the shaft 5 so as to freewheel stationarily thereon. A brake band 23, Fig. 6, operated by a spring 26 and ram plunger 27, is held inoperative by fluid pressure from a line 31 except when the drive motor is unenergized or de-energized (reference solenoidvalve 32). When fluid pressure is insufficient (brake on), a pressure-sensitive switch 33 opens to terminate or prevent energization of the drive motor. If a plough (not shown) is provided, a pulley (not shown) is fixed to stub shaft 14 instead of housing 16 in order to rotate shaft 5 reversely, a dog clutch 13A being provided to effect the necessary connection between the said pulley and shaft 5.
