A fused isolating switch comprises an insulating base 2 carrying terminals 5, 6, provided with contact clips 7 urged inwardly by springs 8, the end walls 11 of the base 2 having grooves 1 1a to receive the ribs 17 of a vertically - movable insulating part 3 whose grooves 16 co-operate with partitions 12. The part 3 has cavities 13 carrying cartridge fuses 20 whose conducting ends 20b are partially enclosed by projections 18, 19 movable freely between the clips 7, end walls 14 supporting the fuses 20 when the isolator panel 1 is mounted vertically. The part 3 is moved by a lever 21 pivoted on one wall 11 and attached to a rod 23 passing through arcuate holes 24 in the walls 11 and through elongated apertures 25 in the part 3, and being pivoted on the other wall 11, Fig. 5. The isolator is maintained closed and open by the friction of the rod 23 in the holes 24, 25, and the pressure of clips 7 on the members 20b assists the rod action in the closed position and assists the manual opening movement of the lever 21 as the members 7, 20b separate, this opening movement also being assisted by a spring 28 compressed during closure. The part 3 carries an arm 30 engageable with the pushbutton 31 of a micro-switch 32 controlling the operation of a main switch in series with the isolator, the relative position of members 30, 31 being adjusted so that opening of the main switch occurs before the isolator opens. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 10, the cartridges 50 have knife blades 51 co-operating with spring- urged jaws 35 and are carried by separate insulating blocks 39 movable simultaneously in grooves in walls 11 and partitions 40 by the rod 23 which is secured to a lever 21, is pivoted at 42 and passes through apertures 24, 25 in members 11, 40, 39. Each block 39 carries metal walls 45 having slots 52a for the insertion of the knives 51 into windows 52b where they are held by a spring 54, grooves 48 in the block increasing the leakage path between the walls 45. The bottom 31 of the micro-switch 32 is actuated as before by an arm 43. Specification 491,650 is referred to.
