Abstract
955,233. Electrostatic precipitators. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. April 6, 1962 [April 7, 1961 ; Dec. 29, 1961], No. 13301/62. Heading B2J. [Also in Division F4] Hot material emerging from a furnace is cooled by an air flow which is passed through the furnace against the flow of emerging material and is cleaned after its passage through the furnace by means of an electrostatic precipitator, such cleaning being facilitated by adding water to the air flow at the cooling stage. As shown in Fig. 1 a rotary cement kiln of the dry type comprises a kiln 1 with a burner 23. The powdered cement raw material is supplied to the kiln from a conveyer 10 and the four cyclone separators 5, 4, 3, 2 arranged in series and driven by the exhaust gases of the kiln. By this means the raw material is preheated before admission to the kiln. On emerging from the kiln as clinker the cement passes over a cooling grate 26 with an air stream from a blower 27 forced through the clinker from underneath the grate. The hot clinker and air stream are sprayed with water from a nozzle 30 to provide a dew point of 40 ‹C. in the precipitator 18. The kiln air flow is withdrawn through the cyclone separators by a fan 16 and passed to the electrostatic separator 18 from which the cleaned air is drawn into a chimney 20 and the extracted dust is conveyed by a screw 21 and duct 22 back to the cement raw material conveyer 10. Fig. 3 shows a different arrangement of the cooling stage in which the clinker is sprayed over a section of the grate through which air is forced by blowers 39 and 40. The moistened air is drawn into a throttled chimney 65 to a cyclone separator 56 from which it is returned to the blowers including a further blower 41 which cools the clinker at the hottest part of the grate. The air from the blower 41 is led into the kiln 1. Each blower 39, 40, 41 has valves to control the amount of air drawn from the atmosphere and the secondary supply from the cyclone 56. The clinker is crushed in a mill 63 and transported away on a conveyer 64.
