Abstract
955,189. Automatic control Systems. INDUSTRIAL NUCLEONICS CORPORATION. Jan. 4, 1962 [Jan. 27, 1961], No. 438/62. Heading G3R. The quantity per unit length of a compressible material leaving a continuous processing plant is maintained constant by adjustment of the density of the material being fed to the plant, either by adjusting the pressure of a roller or by applying a variable positive air pressure, the cross-section and feed rate being maintained constant. As shown, the material 11, in a channel 13 is compressed by a roller 22 whose position is controlled in accordance with signals from a radiation gauge 27, 28 which continuously measures the output of the plant. Following the roller a knife 14, rotating a fixed distance above the channel, removes excess material, which may be recirculated, while the corrected stream enters the processing device 19. In the alternative arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) the material is compressed by air pressure, applied in a chamber through which the material passes, and controlled by the radiation gauge, the conveyer being perforated and passing over a space open to atmosphere.
