Abstract

Di-isopropylhydrazide of oxalic acid of the formula: <FORM:0954829/C2/1> is prepared by reacting oxalic dihydrazide and acetone in alcohol solvent and reducing the dihydrazone so obtained by catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of platinum oxide and a acetic acid medium.ALSO:A therapeutic composition which inhibits monoaminooxidase, has a selective action in respect of Dopa (dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine) and is of use as an anti-depressive agent in psychiatry comprises, as active ingredient, diisopropylhydrazide of oxalic acid of formula <FORM:0954829/A5-A6/1> and a therapeutically administrable vehicle, which when liquid contains a flavouring agent. The composition may take the form of tablets or a syrup for oral administration.
