Abstract

The invention comprises 3:5-dimethyl-4-nitroso-1-isopropylpyrazole and its preparation by nitrosating acetylacetone and condensing the resulting nitrosoketone with isopropylhydrazine.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions comprise as the active ingredient 3 : 5-dimethyl-4-nitroso-1-isopropylpyrazole admixed with a diluent. Preferably the compositions contain at least 0.05 per cent by weight of the active compound. Examples describe compositions containing 3 : 5 - dimethyl - 4 - nitroso - 1 - isopropylpyrazole comprising (1) a wettable powder containing silicaceous earth and a wetting agent for the formulation of aqueous dispersions used to spray plants; (2) a solution in industrial methylated spirit for the treatment of ringworm in cattle; and (3) a cream containing castor oil, stearyl alcohol and polyethylene glycol monostearate for topical use on the human body. The Provisional Specification also describes the use of the compound as a therapeutic agent against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, for which purpose it is made up in pharmaceutical diluents, for example in tablets, powders or capsules, or in sterile solutions for injection.
