Abstract

954,816. Children's car seats. J. H. AMES, and F. J. AMES. Jan. 7, 1963 [Nov. 22, 1961], No. 41787/61. Heading A4J. A child's car seat 1, moulded from a resin impregnated glass fibre material, padded with foam rubber and upholstered, has a harness to strap the child in, and it is secured to a passenger seat by bolting the ends of straps 19, 20, 21 to a rigid part of the vehicle, the straps themselves being bolted to the seat 1. Alternatively the three straps may be replaced by one or two long straps 21 which are passed through U- bolts 26 secured to the floor and round the passenger seat to bolts in the top of the seat 1. The straps 19, 20, 21 may have quick release buckles 27 to facilitate removal of the seat. The harness comprises straps 10- 14 which are passed around the child and secured by threading a cone 15 through holes 10a, 12a, pushing a quick release pin 17 through a hole 16 in the cone 15 and turning the pin 17 through 90 degrees to lock it. The length of the harness is adjustable by tightening a cord 18 which is threaded through loops 12b at the ends of the harness straps. The straps 10-12 may be replaced by two straps at chest level.
