954,702. Illuminating cooker hot-plates; supporting lamps. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 31, 1963 [Feb. 1, 1962], No. 3872/62. Headings F4R and F4WAn electric lamp 4 located in a housing 2 above the hotplate of a domestic cooker is movably mounted on a swivel tube 8 so that rotation about a vertical axis or upward movement of the swivel tube switches the light on. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the swivel tube 8, through which the leads 22 to the lamp pass, carries a cam 11 at its lower end arranged so that movement upwards or rotation of rotation of the tube 8 and cam 11 releases the button 12 of a microswitch 13 to close the contacts 25. A stop 27, Fig. 3, prevents the tube 8 and lamp housing 2 being rotated through more than 180 degrees. Engagement of the cam 11 with the lower side of a bearing 9a supporting the tube 8 limits its upward movement. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the microswitch 13 is mounted above the lower bearing 9a for the tube 8, and is operated by a ball 31, Fig. 6, which moves out of a recess in the tube 8 when the lamp housing is moved from its stowed position. A stop 34 on the tube 8 engages a vertical member 33 to prevent the tube being rotated through more than 180 degrees.
