Abstract

954,401. Snap-action switches. GRIGSBY CO. Inc. March 9, 1961 [March 9, 1960], No. 8651/61. Heading H2B. [Also in Division F2] In a detent device for locating, with snapaction, an angularly adjustable shaft, particularly in a multi-position rotary switch, a fixed plate 24, Fig. 4, is formed with a circular array of protuberances 42 engaged by a ball 58 held between resilient arms 54, 56 bent out of a spring web 44, Fig. 1, secured to the adjustable shaft 14. The resilient arms 54, 56 are formed by an arcuate aperture and radial cut in the web 44 which is secured to a flattened portion 16 of the shaft 14, each arm being curved across its width to retain the ball. In the switch shown the fixed plate 24 carries a shaft bearing 18 and struts 26, 28 supporting wafers 30, 32. Contacts 36 on each wafer are bridged by parts of a metal annulus 38 carried by an insulating disc 40 on the shaft portion 16.
