352,602. Controllers ; snap-action switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Perry, C. L. ; 24, Rugby Road, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) May 1, 1930, No. 13482. Convention date, May 1, 1929. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v).] Actuating mechanically.- A controller operated by a rope 13 is retained at any notch by a starwheel 15 engaged by a roller 19 carried by a lever 18. In order to prevent the possibility of the wheel 15 stopping in a position such that the roller engages a top of a tooth, the roller is carried by an arm 22 pivoted to the roller 18 and maintained in a centralized position by a spring. As the wheel 15 is moved from one notch to the next, the arm 22 is initially displaced from its central position, thereafter the roller 19 moves along the inclined face of the tooth till it reaches the top, whereupon the arm 22 is centralized by its spring so as to bring the roller into engagement with the other face of the tooth. Two modifications are described in which the relative disposition of the lever and arm is varied, and one modification in which the lever and arm are replaced by a floating member. In each case, however, the motion of the roller is the same as that described above.
