954,353. Valves. S. DIXON & SON Ltd. Sept. 29, 1960 [Oct. 8, 1959], No. 34129/59. Heading F2V. A gate valve having a gate 15 furnished with sealing rings 20 on its two opposite faces to form a seal with annular seatings of the valve body when the gate is closed, is characterized by the sealing rings being each removably mounted in a recess in the face of the gate with its seating face slightly proud of the gate face and being secured by a collar 22 lying radially inwardly of the ring, this collar being screwed on to an axially disposed spigot 19 on the gate, complementary overlapping lips 23, 21 being provided on the collar and sealing ring for securing the ring. In another embodiment, a parallel-sided gate comprises two members urged apart in closed position by wedge-shaped members. In another form, the rings are provided in a two-member tapered gate of which one member has a stub loosely engaging a socket in the other member, a wall of this socket being fitted in an angled bore of an actuating part. The sealing rings may be of polytetrafluorethylene, polyamide or polyester resins, with or without a filler or a reinforcing means.
