954,316. Fluid-pressure brakes. KNORRBREMSE G.m.b.H. Sept. 7, 1961 [Sept. 10, 1960], No. 32200/61. Heading F2F. In a vacuum and compressed-air braking installation for rail vehicles having a train pipe 7 controlling a vacuum-controlled compressedair operated brake is by its pressure behaviour, and a main air pipe 25 associated with an indirect compressed-air brake (not shown), a valve device 23 is provided whereby pressure variations occurring in the train pipe are imposed in inverse proportion on the pressure behaviour of the main air pipe. By an indirect compressedair brake is meant a brake which is operated by a rise in the pressure in its brake cylinder when a fall in the main air pipe occurs. As shown, a branch pipe 3 connects a driver's valve 5 to a pump pipe 1. The vacuum train pipe 7 is provided with a branch pipe 9 which leads to a vacuum and compressed-air valve 11 to which is connected a vacuum reservoir 13, a compressed-air brake cylinder 15 and a compressed-air supply pipe 17. When the vacuum in the pipe 7 is at control value valve 11 vents the cylinder 15 and when there is a pressure increase in the pipe 7 the valve 11 supplies air to the cylinder 15 from the pipe 17. The valve device 23 transmits the pressure conditions occurring in the train pipe 7 to the main air pipe 25 of the compressed-air braking installation. When the brakes are applied air flows through the pipe 7 into the control chamber 21 and forces the piston 29 downwards, the valve 11 operating as indicated. The valve 47, 51 of the valve device 23 opens and vents the pipe 25 through longitudinal bore 45 and chamber 39 to atmosphere. As soon as a new equilibrium of forces is achieved at the piston system 29, 41 the valve 47, 51 closes. The pressure drop introduced into the air pipe 25 operates the indirect compressed-air brake. To release the brakes, a vacuum of control value is again introduced into the train pipe 17. The spring 35 therefore opens valve 51, 53 until control pressure is again fed into the air pipe 25 through the chambers 49, 43 from the compressed-air feed pipe 55 and the indirect compressed-air brake is released.
