Abstract
954,103. Laminates. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 30, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 44190/61. Heading B5N. A display panel comprises a front transparent thermoplastic sheet 1 laminated to a back translucent or opaque thermoplastic sheet 2, the latter having parts of its thickness removed to leave voids 3 corresponding to the shapes and characters required. In a process for making such display panels the front transparent thermoplastic sheet is laminated to the back translucent or opaque thermoplastic sheet using pressures of from 100 to 2500 p.s.i. and temperatures of from 150‹ to 180‹ C. Both the front and back panels are preferably made from the same thermoplastic material, e.g. polythene, polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, polyvinyl chloride or copolymers. In a preferred embodiment a thermoplastic is used comprising polyvinyl chloride or copolymer of vinyl chloride with up to 20% of another copolymerizable monomer. Different assemblies are illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 (not shown).
