Abstract

975,125. Composite transparent sheets. DOW CHEMICAL CO. Oct. 10, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 38326/62. Heading E1J. A transparent sheet comprises alternate longitudinal strips 26 of extrudable transparent styrene polymer, e.g. polystyrene, with or without dyes, and strips 27 of diffuser material, which are also of styrene polymer or methyl methacrylate polymer having a refractive index difference of at least 0À01 from that of the transparent strips and advantageously at least 0À05 and may be transparent, opaque, translucent, reflective or light absorbing, or may transmit light of different colour from the strips 26, the strips 26, 27 having, in crosssection of the sheet, a regular pattern so that the strips define light paths through the sheets. The diffuser strips 27 may be in section, generally rhomboidal, rectangular, arcuate or circular (Fig. 5), and the strips 27 may extend through the thickness of the sheets.
