Abstract

The display panel includes a transparent base layer. An opaque covering layer is visible when the panel is in use. An intermediate layer and symbols are produced by recesses in the panel reaching at least to the intermediate layer. They are illuminated by light passing through the base layer. Recesses(14) forming the symbols are filled with a transparent material whose index of refraction is near to that of the material of which the transparent layer(11, 12) or layer containing the symbols is made. The recesses are typically formed with a V-shaped cross-section(15).
